Armenian women’s agency in the Ottoman provinces: Workshop with Talin Suciyan

Interrogation (istintak) documents are very rare sources of Ottoman and Armenian history. In this workshop we will read 19th century interrogation documents from the Black Sea region. We will discuss the terminology of the documents such as adultery, prostitution, mental illness, and being destitute women in the provinces as well as the statements of male and female interrogees in the framework of judicial practices of the Armenian administration.

Talin Suciyan is professor of Ottoman and Turkish history. She continues her research at Ludwig- Maximilian University of Munich.
